Participants will learn to recognise the warning signs of misuse, understand its impact, and identify effective intervention strategies. The training will also focus on engaging young people in a supportive, non-judgmental way and providing appropriate guidance to reduce harm. By the end of the session, participants will be better equipped to recognise, respond to, and support young people affected by substance misuse.
The objectives of this course are for participants to:
Understand the prevalence and impact of drugs, alcohol, and substance misuse amongst children and young people.
Provide information on the various substances commonly misused by children and young people, including their effects and risks.
Explore the factors contributing to substance misuse among children iand young people including peer influence, trauma, and social environment.
Identify signs and indicators of substance misuse in children and young people, including behavioural, physical, and psychological manifestations.
Discuss the importance of early intervention and prevention strategies to address substance misuse among children in residential care, including harm reduction approaches.
Provide guidance on creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment for children and young people to discuss substance misuse issues and access appropriate support services.
Empower participants with the knowledge and skills to develop and implement effective policies, procedures, and interventions to address substance misuse and promote the well-being of children and young people.
