This introductory course provides foundational knowledge and practical guidance for practitioners working with children and young people who display sexually harmful or concerning behaviours. Recognising that these behaviours often emerge from trauma, neglect, or unmet developmental needs, the course offers a trauma-informed lens for understanding and responding safely, sensitively, and therapeutically.

  • To increase staff confidence in identifying, responding to, and supporting children who display sexually harmful behaviours. The course promotes a non-shaming, child-focused approach while reinforcing safeguarding procedures and supporting professional curiosity.

  • The objectives of this course are for participants to:

    • Understand the developmental and contextual factors that may contribute to sexually harmful behaviour

    • Distinguish between normal, concerning, and harmful sexual behaviour

    • Respond to disclosures or incidents in a calm, trauma-informed way

    • Maintain professional curiosity and reflective supervision in complex cases

    • Understand reporting procedures and risk assessment frameworks

    • Explore the impact of sexually harmful behaviour on peers, staff, and organisational culture
