This training session focuses on raising awareness about the harmful practice of female genital mutilation (FGM). Participants will learn about the cultural, social, and health implications of FGM, as well as strategies for identifying and supporting individuals at risk.
To raise awareness about the harmful practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), its cultural and social context, and its devastating physical, emotional, and psychological impact on individuals. This training will equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to identify those at risk, recognise signs of FGM, and respond appropriately within legal and safeguarding frameworks. The session will also explore the role of professionals in prevention, early intervention, and supporting survivors with a trauma-informed approach.
The objectives of this course are for participants to:
Understand about the cultural, social, and health implications of FGM.
Equip participants with knowledge and understanding of the different types of FGM procedures.
Increase awareness about the prevalence and distribution of FGM globally and within specific communities.
Provide strategies for identifying signs of FGM and individuals at risk of undergoing or being affected by FGM.
Discuss relevant legislation and safeguarding procedures aimed at preventing and addressing FGM.
Promote empathy and sensitivity towards individuals affected by FGM and empower participants to support and advocate for victims and survivors.
